Elizabeth Church

1753-1841 · Saybrook IL
Born 1753, Saybrook, Connecticut
Died 1841

Elizabeth Church was born at Saybrook, Connecticut, on 28 November 1753, a daughter of Simeon Church and Eunice Warner. Her father was the blacksmith and parish clerk of Chester, the part of Saybrook that later became its own town. She was the sixth of their children in the family list.

On 5 September 1779 she married Isaiah Huntley of Lyme. Their seven children were born at Marlow, New Hampshire, between 1780 and 1798. The youngest, Selden, settled in Orange County, Vermont.

Her father died in 1792. In 1803 his heirs were listed together, each with a home, and she is among them as "Eliza, wife of Isaiah Huntley, Marlow, N.H." Her brother Titus was then at Pawlet, Vermont, her brother John at Winchester, Connecticut, and her brother Simeon at Rensselaerville, New York. The rest were still at Saybrook. That same year her sister Eunice's husband, Phineas Warner, took on the keeping of their widowed mother.

Isaiah died in December 1820. Elizabeth was a widow for twenty years. She died on 13 February 1841, aged eighty-seven, and was buried beside him in the Duxbury Corner Cemetery. Her stone calls her Elizabeth, wife of Isaiah Huntley.

Her family is entry 317 in a genealogy of Simeon Church's descendants printed at Waterbury, Connecticut, in 1914, under the heading Family of Elizabeth. It carries her line down four generations, into Pennsylvania.
