Elizabeth Snider
Elizabeth Snider was born in 1765. She was very probably a daughter of Jacob Snider, a farmer on Back Creek in Berkeley County, Virginia, and his wife Margaret. A lineage form of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a genealogical query of the 1930s both list Jacob's children. Both end with a daughter who married John Hendricks, and neither gives her name. The passages of her father's will that survive in transcription do not name his daughters.
Her father died by June 1790. His will left land in Bedford Valley, Pennsylvania, to her brothers John and Jacob, and 205 acres in Pennsylvania to her brothers David and Joseph. It ordered "every child to have an equal share of my Estate." Several of the family settled in Croyle's Valley, now Snake Spring Valley, in Bedford County. Their descendants made up most of the early Snake Spring congregation of the Church of the Brethren.
She married John Henricks in 1785, according to Find a Grave. The Bedford County records place the couple among her family. In 1788 John was taxed with Jacob, John and David Snider. In 1795 he was taxed beside "Margret Snider Widow" and Jacob, Joseph and David Snider. Their son Peter was born in what is now Snake Spring Township in 1802.
By 1816 the family was in Madison Township, then in Muskingum County, Ohio. John made his will there on 18 March 1816 and died that spring. He named her "my beloved wife Elizabeth" and provided for her before the children. The rest of his estate was to be sold and divided equally among them. The will names ten: Jacob, Peggy, John, George, Samuel, Joseph, Daniel, Peter, Elizabeth and Mary. A son Eli was among the heirs in 1827. Several of her children were German Baptists, or Dunkards, in Perry and Sandusky counties, Ohio, the church of the Snake Spring Sniders.
She died in 1826.
