Estella Marie Abbey was born on 14 March 1903 in Colorado. She was called Stella. Her parents were Luke R. Abbey, from Illinois, and Effie M. Phillips, from Missouri. Her older brother John Henry and sister Arline had been born in Missouri, and a sister, Della Rosa, born in 1901, died as a baby. Two younger brothers, Charles Francis and Cecil Luke, were born in Colorado in 1904 and 1905.

In April 1910 the family lived in Olathe Township, Johnson County, Kansas, southwest of Kansas City. Her father was 42 and her mother 31; they had been married thirteen years, and her mother had borne six children, five of them living. Stella was seven.

By January 1920 her mother was the head of a household in Kansas City, Missouri, with Stella and her two younger brothers. Her mother was entered as widowed, although Luke Abbey lived another five years.

Stella married Orval M. Belville when she was sixteen and he eighteen, about 1919 or 1920. Their daughter Lorraine was born in Missouri in 1921 and their son Robert at Independence, Missouri, on 4 March 1923.

By 1925 she and Orval were living at Richmond, California. Her father had come west too. He died at the hospital in Martinez on Tuesday, 24 March 1925, after two weeks' illness, and the Martinez paper listed among his survivors "Ms. Orville Bellville of Richmond."

In April 1930 she was 27 and living with Orval and the two children in the city of Pittsburg, in Contra Costa County. Ten years later they owned a house just outside the city, and a third child, Kenneth, had been born about 1933. In 1942 Orval named her as the person who would always know his address. They were still in Pittsburg in 1950.

Stella died on 17 August 1981 in Contra Costa County, aged 78. She is buried in Oak View Memorial Park at Antioch. Her stone, shared with Orval, reads "ESTELLA M. 1903-1981."
