Everett Coleman Coombs was born on 10 March 1889 at Gibbs, Adair County, Missouri, a son of Coleman Uriah Coombes, a Kentucky-born farmer, and Delphine Elmore, whose people had the farm at Gibbs. His parents had married in Adair County in February 1874 and tried Smith County, Kansas before coming back to Missouri; by 1900 they had settled for good in Liberty Township, Cowley County, Kansas, and are buried at Akron. The family was in Liberty Township, Cowley County, Kansas, by 1900, Everett one of six children at home with Leatha, Wibbie, Charlie, Samuel and Bertha.

At eighteen he married for the first time, far from home. The licence was taken out on 31 January 1907 in Carroll County, Arkansas, and he married Elsie Elma Jameson there on 3 February, giving his residence as Beaver, Carroll County. A son, Norman Edward, was born in 1908. The marriage did not last; Elsie later married a Reynolds. By 1910 Everett was back in Liberty Township.

In 1913 he married Pearl Frances Jones, born at Glencoe in the Oklahoma Territory. Their son Carl, born in 1914, died the same year. Iris Pearl was born at Winfield on 13 September 1918, and a daughter Agnes Anita; a son called Junior lived only in 1933. Pearl died in Idaho in 1944 and was brought back to Akron Cemetery in Cowley County. Everett married a third time, Celia Elizabeth Nail. He moved from Wellington to Blackwell, Kay County, Oklahoma in 1952 and lived at 1006 West Padon. He died there unexpectedly at his home at ten on the morning of Tuesday 8 August 1961, aged 72. The Blackwell Journal-Tribune of the following Sunday named his survivors: his wife Celia E. Coombs; his daughters Mrs. Ira Askins of Winfield, which is Iris, and Mrs. Nida Miller of Medicine Lodge, which is Anita; two step-daughters, Mrs. Effie Moore of Amarillo and Mrs. Opal Edmonds of Blackwell; and a step-son, Samuel O'Neal of Sand Springs. Roberts and Sons funeral home had the arrangements. He is buried in Blackwell Cemetery, Block 303, under a stone that reads God is love.
