Gerd Ferdinand von Bokern
Gerd Ferdinand von Bokern was born at Ankum on 26 December 1811 and baptised two days later in the church of Sankt Nikolaus. His parents were Adam von Bokern, a joiner of Ankum, and Maria Catharina Hömkekorf. His godfather was a Ferdinand, and he was given the name.
He was the fourth of eight children. His father and his grandfather Johann Friedrich von Bokern were both master joiners in the village, and Ferdinand followed them into the trade.
On 10 October 1840 he married Elisabeth Dillhoff at Ankum, with Hermann von Bokern as one of the two witnesses. Their son Gerhard Friedrich was born on 17 October 1844 and baptised two days later. A Friedrich von Bokern stood as godfather, very probably Ferdinand's elder brother Johann Friedrich, and the boy took his name.
By 1858 the family lived at Tütingen, one of the farming hamlets of Ankum parish, and the burial book calls Ferdinand a married joiner there. He died at Tütingen of consumption on 18 April 1858, aged forty six years, three months and twenty four days, and was buried at Ankum on 21 April. His son was thirteen. His father, a widower of seventy four, outlived him by four and a half years.
