Helen Eva Staniec was born on 31 January 1909 in Nance County, Nebraska. Her parents, Bartley Staniec and Julia Marfica, had both been born in Poland. They had married at St. Lawrence Catholic church in Silver Creek in 1906, Bartley's second marriage, and Helen was the second of their thirteen children. From her father's first marriage she had five older half sisters and brothers.

She grew up on her father's farms in Nance County, around the Polish parish of Saints Peter and Paul at Krakow, and went to school in Silver Creek. On 4 October 1930, at Columbus, she married Laun E. Hinkle of Silver Creek. Their son Laun Jr. was born in 1935. In 1940 they were living in Silver Creek village with Laun's widowed father, Eli Hinkle, who stayed with them until he died in 1941.

When her father died in 1948, his obituary listed her among nine surviving daughters as Mrs. Helen Hinkle of Silver Creek.

Her obituary says she raised her family before going to work for Dale Electronics for fourteen years. She was a member of the Methodist church in Silver Creek, her husband's church rather than the Catholic parish she was raised in. Laun died in 1985. She stayed in Silver Creek until 2003 and then moved to Fremont.

Helen died at Fremont on Christmas Day, 25 December 2007, aged ninety eight. Her son Laun Jr. had died four months earlier. She was survived by three sisters, Vera McNenemy of Rutland, Massachusetts, Frances Miller and Julie Staniec, both of Silver Creek, and by five grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and eleven great great grandchildren. Her obituary calls her "a devoted wife and loving grandmother." She is buried beside Laun in Silver Creek Cemetery.
