Hephzibah Ford
Hephzibah Ford was baptised at Holy Trinity in Dorchester, the county town of Dorset, on 15 May 1625. She was a daughter of Thomas Ford and Elizabeth Charde. Her elder sisters Joan and Abigail had been born at Bridport before the family moved to Dorchester. A brother Thomas and a sister Hannah were born at Dorchester and died as infants.
In 1630, when she was about five, her family crossed in the Mary and John with the Dorchester company. They settled at Dorchester in Massachusetts and in 1636 moved to Windsor on the Connecticut River. Her mother died at Windsor in April 1643. In November 1644 her father married Ann, the widow of Thomas Scott of Hartford, and Ann's daughters Mary, Sarah and Elizabeth Scott became her stepsisters.
She married Richard Lyman, a son of Richard Lyman of Hartford, who had come over with his parents in 1631. Her sister Abigail was by then the wife of John Strong, later ruling elder of Northampton. Richard farmed her father's land on the east side of the river at Windsor and was one of the first selectmen of Northampton. Their children were Hephzibah, Sarah, Richard, born at Windsor in 1647, Thomas, Elizabeth, John, Joanna, born in 1658, and Hannah, born in 1660.
Richard died on 3 June 1662. On 7 October 1664 she married John Marsh of Hadley. Her daughter Sarah Lyman married John Marsh Jr. in 1666. Her father came to Northampton in his old age and died there in 1676.
