Richard Lyman
Richard Lyman was born at Windsor in Connecticut in 1647. He was the eldest son of Richard Lyman and Hephzibah Ford. His father was one of the first selectmen of Northampton and also farmed land on the east side of the river at Windsor that had belonged to his wife's father, Thomas Ford.
His father died on 3 June 1662, when Richard was about fifteen. Two years later his mother married John Marsh of Hadley.
On 26 May 1675, at Northampton, he married Elizabeth, "daughter of John Coles, of Hatfield, Mass." Her father died that September. Their children were Samuel in 1676, Richard in 1678, John in 1680, Isaac in 1682, Jonathan in 1684, Elizabeth in 1685, David in 1688, Josiah in 1690, and a daughter Anne.
The family lived at Northampton until 1696. That year they moved to Lebanon in Connecticut, a new town then being settled. An allotment there was deeded to Richard, and he divided it among his children so that his sons each had land of their own.
He died on 4 November 1708. The family genealogy of 1872 notes that "No monument marks his resting place."
