Jamie A. Peck
Jamie A. Peck was born on 31 May 1907 at Watonga, Blaine County, in what was still Oklahoma Territory. Statehood came that November. He was the son of James A. Peck, who had come from Illinois, and his second wife, Rose Clara McClain. In 1910 the household at Watonga held J. A. and Rose C. Peck, Jamie, Thomas A., Edward J. and Ralph L. Peck, and his mother's son Eugene Blakeley. Jamie went to school at Watonga through the 1910s and 1920s.
At Christmas 1927, at Watonga, he married Mary Belle Williams, a Watonga girl of seventeen. The date on their stone reads DEC. 25, 1927. Their first son, Jamie Eugene, was born at Watonga in November 1929, and in 1930 the young family was still at Watonga. Lee Warren followed in April 1932, also at Watonga. By 1936 they had moved to Guthrie, where Lawrence was born that January.
In October 1940 Jamie registered for the draft at Guthrie. He was 33, born at Watonga on 31 May 1907, and gave his wife, Mrs. Mary Belle Peck, as the person who would always know where he was.
After the war, in 1945, the family moved to a ranch near Ochelata, in Washington County close to the Osage line. In 1950 the census found Jamie, Mary B., Warren and Lawrence in the Bigheart district of Osage County. The boys went to school at Ramona, and Jamie served on the school board there. When his youngest son came home from Oklahoma State to teach, Jamie stepped down from the board so that Lawrence could be hired.
Jamie died at Tulsa on 5 June 1974, aged 67. He is buried in the Ochelata Cemetery under a double stone with Marybelle, who lived on at Ochelata until 1999. His son Lawrence kept the ranch for another half century.
