Born on 29 April 1900. She married Samuel Benson McCollum of Woodstock in Cherokee County, Georgia, and bore at least seven children between 1918 and 1940: Henry Thomas, Harold Lee, Thomas Watson, Margaret, Era, Maudie Ree and Roy Gene. The first four were born in Cherokee County and around Kennesaw, the last three at Atlanta, which marks the move the family made from the hill country down to the city some time in the 1920s.

She was the second child of Henry Osburn Brookshire, of Cherokee County, and his wife Annie R. In the 1930 census the whole McCollum family is inside the Atlanta household of Albert Brookshire, who was her own elder brother, born a day short of two years before her, and her parents and four more of their children were in that house as well. Her son Thomas Watson, filling in his draft card in the war years, gave his next of kin simply as "Oneda McCollum", which is the form of her name the family used.

She died on 5 February 1972 and was buried at Woodstock in Cherokee County. Her husband followed her two years later into the same ground.
