Jean Feld
Jean Feld was born Jeanne Pomerantz on 26 May 1921 in New York, the youngest of the three daughters of Leo Pomerantz and his wife Fanny. Her father was a Russian Jewish immigrant and her mother was born in Austria. Her older sisters were Helen, born about 1915, and Sylvia, born about 1919.
She grew up in Brownsville, Brooklyn. In 1930 she was 8. By 1935 the family lived at 317 Riverdale Avenue, at the corner of Stone Avenue, and in April 1940 Jeanne was 19 and still at home there. Across Stone Avenue, at number 710, lived Irving Feld, born the same year, the son of Galician immigrants Samuel and Celia Feld.
Jeanne married Irving, and by February 1942 she was Mrs. Jean Feld. The couple lived in apartment 8 at 693 Stone Avenue, the building next to her parents'. Irving went into the Army in April 1943, and their daughter Sharon was born about 1944. A son, Bruce, followed about 1948.
In April 1950 Jean was 28, keeping house in her parents' apartment, number 9 at 317 Riverdale Avenue. With her were Irving, a watchmaker, the two children, and her parents Leo and Fanny. A second son, Jay, was born in Brooklyn in 1954.
Jean died in Palm Beach County, Florida, on 25 October 1986, at 65. She was buried at New Montefiore Cemetery in West Babylon, Long Island, in the plot of the King Solomon Triangle Club. Irving outlived her by almost thirty years and was buried beside her in 2016.
