Johann Baptist Schrenk was born at Oberflacht on 2 October 1766 and baptised that day in the parish church at Seitingen. The priest entered him as "Joannes Baptista, Fil. Leg., Michael Schrenck, Maria Anna Ilgin ex oberfl.", the legitimate son of Michael Schrenk and Maria Anna Ilg of Oberflacht. His godparents were Joannes Keller and Maria Anna Distlerin.

His father was a farmer and the son of the village tailor, Lukas Schrenk. His mother was the daughter of Benedict Ilg, the Oberflacht miller. Johann Baptist was the third of their ten children and the first son. Six of the ten died, and he was the only son who lived to marry.

Like his father he was Bürger und Bauer zu Oberflacht, a burgher and farmer of the village. His household is entered in the Oberflacht family register at house number 44, the same number as his father's.

He married late. On 3 August 1802, at thirty-five, he married Barbara Lehmann of Seitingen, who was twenty-nine. She was the daughter of Anton Lehmann, the Seitingen smith, and Anna Braun of Hofen. The marriage entry gives both their birth dates: "Joannes Baptista Schrenk de Oberflacht et Barbara Lehmännin de Seitingen n. 1772. 29. 8bris. Sponsus n. 1766. 2. 8bris." Both are entered single. The witnesses were Josephus Ilg, a young unmarried man of Oberflacht, and Maria Lehmännin of Seitingen.

Their daughter Maria Anna was born on 13 January 1803. A son, Konrad, followed in November 1804 and is marked dead on the family page.

Johann Baptist died on 9 October 1806, a week after his fortieth birthday, and was buried at Seitingen. Barbara died on 11 December. Maria Anna was not yet four. His parents were still living at Oberflacht, and both died in November 1810.

Eighteen years later, on 27 April 1824, Maria Anna married Joseph Schrenk of another Schrenk house of Oberflacht. He was the son of Michael's half-brother Joseph, so the bride and groom were both descended from Lukas Schrenk, she through his first marriage and he through his second. Her marriage entry names her parents as Johann Schrenk and Barbara Lehmann. Her burial in 1867 names them as Joseph Schrenk and Barbara Schmann, and both names are wrong.
