John Webster
John Webster was born at Middletown in Connecticut on 10 November 1653, the eldest son of Robert Webster and Susannah Treat. His father was then recorder of Middletown and lieutenant of its trainband, and his grandfather John Webster had been governor of the colony. The family moved to Hartford in his boyhood.
He married Sarah, a daughter of Jacob and Sarah (Whiting) Mygatt of Hartford. Their eldest, Sarah, was baptised on 29 July 1678. John followed, baptised on 26 October 1680, then Anne in 1682, Abigail in 1686, Ebenezer in 1689, Jacob, and Daniel in 1693. The family genealogy of 1915 gives him the place of honour in its third generation, as the oldest grandchild of the governor known to have left children.
His father died in 1676, when he was twenty two. He himself died young. According to the record of the First Church of Hartford he died on 8 December 1694, aged forty one. His eldest child was sixteen and his youngest about a year old. His widow was appointed administrator of his estate on 7 March 1695, and in 1698 she married Lt. Benjamin Graham.
His mother Susannah outlived him. Her will of 23 January 1698 names "the now surviving children of my oldest son John Webster, deceased, viz.: John, Ebenezer, Jacob, Daniell, Sarah, Ann, Abigail." His estate was not divided until 7 August 1728. That day the Hartford court named "Sarah Graham, alias Webster, relict of said John Webster; John Webster, eldest son; Ebenezer, second son; heirs of Jacob, the third son; Daniel, fourth son."
