Joshua Fobes Jr.
Joshua Fobes the younger was born at Bridgewater, Massachusetts, in 1715. He was the third child and the only son of Joshua Fobes, the man later remembered as the first white settler in Titicut, and of Abigail Dunbar. His sisters were Bethiah, Hannah, Mary, Leah, Betty and Abigail.
In 1740 he married Esther, a daughter of Nicholas Porter of Abington. The Bridgewater clerk entered their children as children of "Joshua Jr. and Esther". Mitchell's history of the town lists eight: Azariah 1741, who died young, Daniel 1742, Ruth 1744, Abigail 1747, Joshua 1749, Caleb 1750, Robert 1753 and Solomon 1756. Ruth married Ebenezer Alden of Middleborough in 1763 and Abigail married Joseph Cowen in 1772. Of the youngest son Mitchell writes: "Solomon had Laban, Martin and others. Laban m. Hannah Richmond 1816, and remained here, the rest moved away." Caleb was one of those who moved away. He married Susanna Keith in 1776 and went to Lyme, New Hampshire.
Joshua's death is not given. A Joshua Fobes of Preston, Connecticut, born 22 September 1715, is a different man.
