Lars Gudmundsen Ile
Lars Gudmundsen Ile was born at Vikedal in Ryfylke, on the Rogaland coast, in 1666, and died in the same parish in 1730. He was lensmann and gårdbruker there, the local sheriff and a farmer. The family record adds a judgement it does not add about many people: Han var en rik mann, he was a rich man. He appears to have lived most of his life at Ile.
His patronymic gives his father's name as Gudmund. The same book has the sentence Han var sønn av Gudmund Håland og Brynhild Skikelstrand, he was the son of Gudmund Håland and Brynhild Skikelstrand, but it is not clear that it refers to him.
He married Anna Maria Pedersdatter Tønder, of Sandsgård in Tysvær, born 1670. Three children of the marriage are recorded: Gudmund, born 1697, who took the farm name Årvig; Peter, born 1699, who took his mother's surname and went east; and Margreta, born 1700, who lived until 1772. Anna Maria died at Ile in 1700, in the year the youngest was born. Gudmund was three and Peter one.
He married a second time, to Kirsten Jakobsdatter Valen. His elder son lived as Gudmund Larsen Årvig, patronymic and farm, in the ordinary way. The younger went through life as Peter Larssen Tønder, left the district and became byfoged, the town magistrate, of Kragerø on the far side of the country.
