Laura Blanche Taber
Laura Blanche Taber was born on 1 October 1873 in Ellis County, Texas. She was the only child found for Edward Dudley Taber and Laura Jemima Witherell. Her parents had married in Knox County, Illinois, in January 1871 and came to Texas soon after. Her father had served three years in the army on the Wyoming frontier in the Sioux War.
In 1880 the census found her aged six, listed as Blanche Taber, on her father's farm in Ellis County. Her grandfather William Taber, 63 and born in Ohio, lived with them. The censuses of 1880 and 1910 both call her Blanche.
By 1895 she had married William Madison Tidwell, a lawyer. Their son William Edward was born at Ennis in February 1896. Their daughter Laura Blanche, who carried her mother's full name, was born at Ennis on 11 October 1902, while the family lived at Ferris. In 1910 they lived in Waxahachie. By 1930 they were at Ennis, with their married daughter and granddaughter Blanche Wynnell Myres in the house.
Her mother died in 1928. When her father died in March 1934, his will named her independent executrix without bond. That meant she could settle his estate herself, without court supervision and without putting up a surety. Her husband acted as attorney. She filed the inventory of the estate on 4 April 1934.
Her husband died in 1949. She lived on at Ennis as a widow for seventeen years and died there on 25 March 1966, aged 92. She was buried beside him in the Fourth Addition of Myrtle Cemetery. Her stone reads "LAURA BLANCHE TABER TIDWELL / OCT. 1 1873 / MAR. 25 1966" and carries the emblem of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Masonic order open to women.
