Levi Beauregard Fetty was born in Mason County, West Virginia on 23 September 1867 and died at Point Pleasant in Mason County on 29 January 1928, aged sixty. He was buried three days later at Lone Oak Cemetery in Point Pleasant, and the certificate records him as widowed.
He married Nettie Meadows in 1890 and they moved along the Ohio River with the work. Their eldest, Elmer Franklin, was born at Guyandotte in Cabell County on 25 October 1892, which is the Huntington waterfront. By 1900 they are at Southside in Mason County and by 1910 at Teays Valley in Putnam, with seven children in the house and Melvin the third of them at fifteen.
He was born in September 1867, two years after the war ended, and somebody in Mason County named him for P. G. T. Beauregard, who had opened it. There is a LEVI FETTY of the FOURTEENTH WEST VIRGINIA INFANTRY, Union, 1862, and that regiment was raised at Point Pleasant, in his father's own county. If that soldier is his father, then a Union veteran named his son after the Confederate general who fired on Fort Sumter, two years after Appomattox, in a state that had cut itself out of Virginia to stay in the Union. It is not proved, and the case rests on the regiment alone.
His death certificate names his mother SISSIE HOLLEY, and both halves of that are names from her own family. Her name was Sarah Narcissa, written Narsissie and Norsissie elsewhere, so Sissie is what the family actually called her. And two of her sisters married Holleys, Mary Elizabeth to Greenville Holley and Eliza to another. The informant had the right household and the wrong sister. Five other children's certificates and the 1863 marriage return all say Cremeans.
