Levi E. Fleming
Levi E. Fleming was born on 26 May 1848 near Lynx, a village in the east of Adams County, Ohio. His parents were Levi Fleming and Tresa Young, both born in Ohio. He named them on his marriage record of 1904 and they are named on his death certificate.
On 20 February 1870 he married Malissa Salisbury, who was a year younger than he was. They had seven children: Addie, Hattie, Clay, Tillie, Nora, Jessie and Charley. Mary Adelina, called Addie, the eldest, was born on 25 January 1871 at West Union and married George Coleman Bayless. William Clay Henry Fleming followed in 1874. By 1934 the children were spread from West Union and Stout in Ohio to Youngstown, Steubenville, Pittsburgh and West Virginia.
Malissa died on 2 October 1896, aged forty-seven. On 17 August 1904, in Brown County, Levi married again. His second wife was Sarah M. Spears. She died about 1924.
Levi was a farmer. He died in Liberty Township on 13 February 1934, aged eighty-five, a widower, after a long decline. He was buried three days later in East Liberty Cemetery near Lynx. He lies beside Malissa under a gray granite stone cut FLEMING, with roses at its corners.
