Lida Swazey Long
Lida Swazey Patten was born at Bucksport, Maine, about 1873, the daughter of Mighill P. Patten and Julia A. Bowden. Bucksport is a river port near the mouth of the Penobscot. Her mother was about 45 when she was born. Her brothers William P. and Calvin E. were nearly twenty years older. In 1880 the census found her at Bucksport, aged 7, in her parents' household with her brother Samuel M. Patten.
She went to Massachusetts and on 20 January 1897 she married Edward James Long, a young man from Bangor, at Watertown, giving her parents' names to the clerk as Mighill and Julia Bowdin. The next spring her brother Calvin died at Hong Kong, China. Her mother died at Bucksport in 1909 and her father in 1910.
Lida and Edward lived in Watertown, where her children John Philip, Jeremiah Wilmon, born in 1905, and Julia Joanna were born. The censuses of 1910 and 1920 write her as Lida F. and Lida S. Long.
Edward died in 1927. In 1930 a Lida S. Long, 56, born in Maine, was living at Orland, the town beside Bucksport; she is probably the widow, gone home. When Lida died is unknown.
