Lois I. Robinson
Lois I. Robinson was born on 2 October 1919 east of Fletcher, in Comanche County, Oklahoma, the only daughter of Joseph Henry Robinson, a Texas-born farmer, and Alice Hunton. She had four brothers, Glen, Leonard, Bill and Delbert. She went to school in the Cedar Grove community and graduated from Cement High School in 1938.
During the Second World War she worked at Tinker Air Force Base at Oklahoma City. On 19 December 1945 she married Don W. Hooper of Elgin at Blanchard, Oklahoma, and came home to Fletcher, where they farmed. In later years she helped her husband in his insurance agency. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fletcher and served in its nursery, and she belonged to the Rebekah Lodge, the women's branch of the Odd Fellows, and to the Mountain View Home Extension Club, one of the homemakers' groups tied to the county agricultural extension service.
Don died on 23 April 2007. Lois died on Saturday, 25 September 2010, in a Lawton care centre, a week short of her ninety-first birthday. Her funeral was at the First Baptist Church in Fletcher on the Tuesday, the Rev. Mike Tompkins officiating, and she was buried beside Don in the Elgin Cemetery. She left her son and daughter-in-law, D.W. and Roberta Hooper of Fletcher, her daughters Laveta Long and her husband Jon of Lawton and Patty Ryder of Fletcher, four grandchildren and their spouses, Melinda and Brian Kincaid, Dustin and Joni Hooper, Stefanie and Jeremy Roberts and Colby and Krystal Ryder, four great-grandchildren, Amanda and Madison Kincaid and Braeden and Lydia Roberts, and a sister-in-law, Nadine Robinson of Lawton. Her four brothers had died before her. A studio photograph from her early twenties, dark curls and a tailored jacket, survives from about the time she went to Tinker Field.
