Lovey H. Adams
Lovey H. Adams was a daughter of Isaac Adams of Hancock County, Georgia. She was born about 1785. By December 1811 she was married to Moses Langston. That month her father made his will, leaving his estate to his wife Nancy B. Adams for her life and then to be "equally divided amongst all my Children except Lovey H. Langston," who was to have a sum of money instead. The amount was left blank in the copy. Her daughter Rebecca Ann was born in Hancock County on 21 March 1812.
The Langstons moved to Morgan County. In December 1820 Moses, "feeble and weak in body," made his will and named "my beloved wife, Lovey" one of his two executors. He died soon after. A family account says she was 35 and never married again. His will kept the property together until the youngest child came of age, with Lovey to draw a child's part only if she remarried.
So she ran it. In 1823 she returned an account of the estate to the Morgan County court, including cash from the sale of an enslaved man named Isham. In 1824 the guardian of the Watts orphans sued her as executrix over a note Moses had signed in 1820. In 1825 she and Greene W. Adams were sued together on a debt. She kept the estate through the 1830s, when it was counted in seven shares, and took it with her to Troup County. In January 1839 one of the legatees, James R. Langston, petitioned the court there that she was mismanaging it "to the injury of the Legatees," and she was ordered to answer.
The family account says she moved on to Claiborne Parish, Louisiana, and then to Ouachita County, Arkansas, where she made her home with her son Moses in 1850 and 1860. Her daughter Rebecca Ann married Thomas Roderick Wright and settled near Vienna, in north Louisiana. Her daughter Harriet married a Stocks. Rebecca named no child for her, but Rebecca's son Simeon Wright named a daughter Nora Lovicy in 1888.
