Lula House
Lula House was born in Texas on 9 January 1875. Her death certificate names her parents as Joseph House and Martha Zellner. Joseph Daris House died in 1902 and Martha in 1932, and both are buried at Salem-Wilson Cemetery near Cameron in Milam County.
On 29 December 1895, at Cameron in Milam County, she married Jesse Bryant Nisbett, a carpenter. Their first child, a son, died in infancy in October 1896. Their children included Dessie Imo, Martha Anne, Lillian Emma, Joseph Newman, Jesse Clyde and Lula Lee. Jesse died at Chillicothe in January 1933, and Lula was a widow for twenty-three years.
Her last months were spent in the Simington Rest Home at 1404 Fourth Avenue in Dallas, where she had been for six months. Her own address was Route 5, Box 595 A, Dallas. She died there on 16 March 1956, aged 81. The certificate gives senility of two years' standing, with malnutrition and myocarditis. Her son J. N. Nisbett signed as informant. She was taken back to Milam County and buried at Salem-Wilson Cemetery, near her parents, under a stone that reads "Mother. Gone to rest."
