Martha Zellner
Martha Zellner was born in Milam County, Texas, on 9 October 1849. Her death certificate names her father as Francis Zellner, born in Tennessee, and her mother as Serena Meyers. Her parents had married in Jefferson County, on the Gulf coast, and moved to Milam County in 1846, three years before she was born. Her father had served a year in the Texas Rangers in 1837 and was granted land in Milam County for it. In the census of October 1850 she was the baby of the house, aged 1, with her parents and her sisters Margaret, Mary J. and Elizabeth and her brother Marion.
She married Joseph Daris House, sixteen years her senior. Their children were Olivia Elizabeth, John Wesley, Lula, born in 1875, Joseph, Imogene and George Zellner House, the last named for her own family. Lula married Jesse Bryant Nisbett.
Joseph died in 1902, and Martha was a widow for thirty years. She kept house to the end, and her certificate gives her occupation as housewife. On 14 November 1932 she died suddenly in Precinct 1 of Milam County, aged 83. Dr. E. E. Monroe of Cameron came and found her already dead. He gave the cause as a coronary embolism, with hardening of the arteries of many years. Her daughter-in-law, Mrs. John House of Cameron, gave the family details. Colemans of Cameron buried her two days later in the Salem Cemetery, beside her husband. The stone they share is carved "Gone to rest."
