Margaret Mullins
Margaret Mullins was the mother of Frances Vanover, born about 1872. The Kentucky death record of Frankie Baker, who died at Burdine, Letcher County, in 1925, names her parents John R. Vanover and Margret Mullins.
She was John R. Vanover's first wife. The register of deaths that the Wise County assessor returned for 1875 records, on line 29, the death of Jane Vanover, white, female, of an unknown cause, in May 1875 in Wise County, aged 22. Her parents are written "Booker & Nancy Mullens", her birthplace Wise County, her condition a wife, and the informant John R. Vanover, her husband. Thirteen months later, on 15 June 1876, John R. Vanover married Sarah Jane Gibson, the Jane of his household in 1880.
A wife of John R. Vanover who was a Mullins, born about 1853 and dead by 1875, fits Frances's mother in every particular but her given name. She was very probably Margaret Jane, called Jane by her husband and remembered as Margaret by her daughter's family fifty years later. Her parents Booker Mullins and Nancy Jane Potter had married in Pike County, Kentucky, in 1835 and raised a large family there before moving to Wise County.
She was about nineteen when Frances was born and twenty two when she died. Frances, three years old, grew up in her father's house with her stepmother and her half sister Elizabeth.
