Marie Magdalene Solberg
Marie Magdalene Solberg, born in 1724 at Drangedal in Telemark, the inland parish behind Kragerø, and dead in 1779. She was a daughter of Halvor Halvorsen Solberg of that place, and the youngest of his daughters.
She married Halvor Heuch, born at Skien in 1721 or 1722, a prokurator who became one of Kragerø's timber merchants and shipowners. An account of her family written from the Drangedal end is direct about how the match was seen there: Med den yngste, Maria, skjøt hun virkelig gullfuglen, hun fikk prokuratoren og trelasthandleren Halvor Heuch. With the youngest, Maria, she really shot the golden bird, meaning her mother, marrying off her daughters, had hit the jackpot with this one.
They had nine or more children and buried at least three of them small: Johanne Maria in 1752, a first Petter Andreas in 1760 and Johan in 1763. Of those who grew up, Hedevig Elisabeth, born 1753, married the byfoged of Kragerø in 1774; Johanne Catrine, born 1757, lived until 1849; Edel Marie married Rasmus Linaae and died at Larvik in 1834; and the sons Peder Andreas and Georg Christian went into the timber trade. She died in 1779 or 1774, before her husband.
