Mary Elizabeth Moore
Mary Elizabeth Moore was born in Laurens County, South Carolina, in July 1854. Her parents were John Moore, a farmer, and his wife Zenora Worthington.
On 8 June 1860 the family was living in Laurens County. John Moore was 37 and his wife 22. Mary was 7, and she had two younger sisters: one, entered only as L., was 4, and the baby, Ella, was six months old. Ella grew up to marry Ludie Franklin Nelson and lived until 1944.
About 1870, when she was about 16, Mary married John R. Fuller, a farmer's son from Waterloo, a few years older than she was. Their first child, Samuel, was born about 1871. In June 1880 they were farming in Waterloo Township with four children: Samuel, Lizzie, Green and the two year old Charles, whom the family called Wright. John's widowed mother and his brother William lived in the two houses next to theirs.
By June 1900 Mary had borne ten children, and seven were living. That year the family rented a farm at Waterloo, and five children were still at home: Charles, Allie, Claude, Burt and Guy. Her son Birt died in October 1918, aged 27.
John died at Laurens in March 1923. Mary lived on at Laurens as a widow, and by the end she was an invalid. She died there of myocarditis, a disease of the heart muscle, on 16 March 1930, after two months of illness. Whoever gave the details for her certificate did not know her birth date and gave her age as about 76. They named her parents as John Moore and Zenora Elmore. Elmore was in fact the name of her mother's second husband; her mother had been born a Worthington. She was buried at Laurens on the same day she died, and lies beside John in Northview Cemetery, under a stone that gives her birth date as 7 July 1854.
