Mary Josephine Lamon
Mary Josephine Lamon was born in Medina County on 12 March 1850, in the sixth year of the Alsatian colony at Castroville. Her death certificate names her father as John Lamon and her mother as Mary Anna Bader, both born in Germany. Her father was elected sheriff of Medina County that August, and her mother was the daughter of Joseph Bader, one of the colonists who founded Castroville in 1844.
On 9 December 1867, at seventeen, she married Charles Eichhorn, a Saxon-born man who had come to Texas as a small boy. Their first child, Anna, was born at Rio Medina in September 1868. Gustave followed in 1870, Josephine in 1872 and Adolph in 1878.
She outlived her husband and spent her last years at Dunlay, near her daughter Anna, who had married Phillip E. Haass. She died there on 9 January 1928, at seventy-seven, of what the doctor called probable coronary occlusion. Her son-in-law, P. E. Haass, gave the details for the certificate. She was buried the next day at Hondo, under a stone carved with a palm frond that reads "Mrs. Mary J. Eichhorn" and, at its foot, "Mother."
