Minnie Lee Teague
Minnie Lee Teague was born on 16 November 1909 in Arkansas. Her parents, William Richard Teague and Oma Fields, had married ten months earlier at Mountainburg in Crawford County, when he was 22 and she was 16. On 4 May 1910 the census found the family in Mountain Township of Crawford County: W. R. Teague, 24, farming fruit, his wife Oma, 18, and Minnie Lee, daughter, five months old. She was her mother's first child.
Minnie and her mother later came west to Oklahoma. By 1926 Minnie was living at Watchorn, an oil-field village near the line between Noble and Pawnee counties. Her daughter Clara Marie was born there on 22 November 1926, six days after Minnie turned seventeen. Minnie later told a census enumerator that she had first married at sixteen.
On 16 April 1930 the census found her at Watchorn as the wife of Louis Bruner. He was 41, an oil-field laborer born in Pennsylvania, and he owned the house. His daughters Geraldine, 17, and Evelyne, 15, lived with them. So did Marie, listed as Marie Bruner, three years and five months old.
How the Bruner marriage ended is not known. On 20 December 1930 Minnie married Frank Sappington at Perry, the Noble County seat. The license calls her Miss Minnie Teague, 21, born in Arkansas and living at Watchorn. Frank was 21, born in Texas and living at Marland. Edw. Hauer, the Lutheran pastor at Perry, married them that day. Her mother, Oma Teague of Watchorn, was a witness, and so was an Andy Sappington of Marland. Fifty years later the groom's obituary placed the wedding at Pawnee, but the county record was made at Perry. Frank was born in Montague County, Texas, on 11 June 1909, the son of Tom and Dovie Sappington, and had come to the Watch Horn community with his family.
In 1940 the Sappingtons farmed in Autry Township of Noble County. Minnie was 30. Marie, 13, lived with them under the Sappington name, and so did Frank's father T. W. Sappington, 56, and David Sappington, 18. Frank later bought Frank's Cafe and Service Station at Morrison.
Marie married Clarence Oliver Hartung of Morrison. Minnie died on 6 January 1960, aged fifty. She is buried at Highland Cemetery in Pawnee under a double granite stone with flowers carved at its corners: SAPPINGTON across the top, MINNIE LEE on the left, FRANK on the right. Her mother, Oma, was later buried in the same cemetery.
Frank married Elnora Clark Schlehuber at Morrison on 4 November 1962. He died at Stillwater Medical Center on 1 May 1981 and was buried beside Minnie at Pawnee. His obituary named Marie as his one daughter.
