Nancy Ann Moore was born in Maryland on 17 January 1785. Her mother was Elizabeth Moore, who was then about sixteen. Her father was very probably William Moore, who was dead by April 1804. Nothing else is known of him.

By 1803 she and her mother were in Nelson County, Kentucky, one of the counties settled by Catholic families out of Maryland. On 26 February 1803, five weeks after her eighteenth birthday, she married James Aud, a Marylander of twenty two. The bond calls her "Ann Moore, daughter of Elizabeth Moore". Because she was under twenty one, a parent's consent was filed with it. Her husband's father, Thomas Aud, stood surety.

Her mother married again in April 1804. The groom was Henry A. Clark, and the bride was "Elizabeth Moore, widow of William Moore, dec'd". Nancy's husband signed the bond as surety. Two Clark half-brothers followed, by their memorials: Benjamin J. Clark, born in 1811, and Joseph M. Clark, born in 1818.

Nancy's first child, Lucy, was born in 1804, a year after the wedding. Martina followed in 1806, John Sanders in 1812 and Priscilla Ann in 1816. By August 1818 the family was in Breckinridge County, on the Ohio, where Thomas J. was born. Arremus followed in 1823 and Henry about 1827. Catherine and William complete the nine.

The family moved on to White County, Illinois, and her mother came with them or followed. Elizabeth Clark died there on 1 October 1838. Nancy died eleven months later, on 27 August 1839, aged fifty four. Her stone is carved with a cross and reads "NANCY ANN AUD, BORN JAN. 17, 1785, DIED AUG. 27, 1839". James died the next May. All three are in one small plot at the Moore Cemetery. Elizabeth's memorial calls her "Mother of Nancy Moore Aud".

The county history of 1883 gives her maiden name two ways. In her son Thomas J.'s sketch she is "Nancy A. (Moore)". In the sketch of her son-in-law Boston Wease she is "Nancy (Clarke)". Clarke is very probably her stepfather's name, carried into the family's memory in place of her own.
