Nancy Ella Howell
Nancy Ella Howell was born on 17 January 1867 at Goliad, Texas. She was a daughter of Theodore Freelen Howell, a Confederate veteran of the 8th Texas Infantry, and his second wife, Nancy Elizabeth Sellers. Her brothers included Isaac Green Howell, Robert Theodore Howell and Dr. Asa William Richard Howell, a physician at Burnet. Her sister was Martha Jane Howell, later Watson.
She married Finis Richmond Keele, a grocer and Church of Christ preacher, and lived with him in Burnet County. Their children were Pansie Maude, Freelan Ganaway and Bettye Annie. When her mother died at Christmas 1904, the obituary named her among the survivors as "Mrs. Ella Keele of Burnet." In about 1906 the family moved to Schleicher County, near Eldorado.
In April 1926 she fell seriously ill. Her brother Dr. A. Howell and his wife hurried from Burnet to Eldorado. The Burnet Bulletin reported that she "lived but a short time after they reached her bedside," and added: "With her husband Mrs. Keele formerly lived in Burnet, and many of our older citizens were friends of the family and will deeply regret to learn of Mrs. Keele's death. She was a good woman, highly regarded by all who knew her." She is buried in Eldorado Cemetery. Her stone reads "N. Ella."
