Priscilla Franklin
Priscilla Franklin was a daughter of John Franklin of Chester County, South Carolina. She carried the name of her grandmother Priscilla, the wife of Thomas Franklin. Her brother Newton Franklin lived in Chester County until his death in 1818.
She married James Huey Jr., the son of a Chester County militia veteran, about 1810. On 13 December 1811 her father gave her an enslaved girl named Leaf, about ten or eleven years old. He put the girl in trust with Newton for Priscilla and "her Heirs of her body begotten." If she had no children, the girl was to go to her husband.
Within three weeks the Huey family left Chester County for Louisiana. They set out on 1 January 1812 and reached Ouachita Parish in April. Priscilla never lived in South Carolina again. Her father died in Chester County in 1817.
Her children are given as Jane, Harriett, Winiford, Mason, James Franklin, Charles Mason and Steven Franklin. The names Franklin and Mason ran through the family for two more generations. Her daughter Winiford, wife of Hugh Hinton, named a daughter Priscilla in 1854.
She died on 27 December 1853 and was buried in Bryan Cemetery near West Monroe. Her marble stone reads "Priscilla Huey, Born June 17, 1775, Died Dec. 27, 1853."
