Robert Seymer was baptised at Sawbridgeworth in Hertfordshire on 30 November 1573: "Robert Seymer bapt ye xxxth day of Nouember 1573." He was the son of John Seymer and his second wife, Dyzory Porter. In October 1605 his father's will left him "a table" and made him executor.

On 14 November 1603 he married Elizabeth Waller at Sawbridgeworth: "Robert Seymer and Elizabeth Waller wer married ye xiv of November." Their son Richard was baptised there on 27 January 1604/5. No other children of Robert's are recorded in the parish. He probably lived for some years in a neighbouring parish, where others were born. A Nathaniel Seamer, born about 1607, a Zechariah Seamer of Ware, born about 1610, and an Elizabeth and a Mary Seamer of the right age were probably his.

He was buried at Sawbridgeworth on 23 August 1637: "Robert Semer was Buryed August 23." He left no will. In the spring after his burial his son Richard left England with his wife Mercy and their children and settled at Hartford in Connecticut.
