Samuel P. Wohlford
Samuel P. Wohlford was born in Indiana on 31 August 1858, one of the younger sons of Jacob Wohlford and Mary S. Kraamer. His parents had come from Pennsylvania by way of Ohio and settled on a farm in Jackson Township, Huntington County. The county history of 1887 lists him among their children. Three of his older brothers served in the Civil War, and one, Benjamin, died in the army.
Samuel married Susannah Rice, who was born in Huntington County on 23 February 1857. Their son William E. Wohlford was born on 5 May 1887. Samuel farmed in Jackson Township, where he had been born. On 24 December 1906 he went with William, then nineteen, to the clerk of the Huntington Circuit Court, swore to the facts on the applications of William and his bride Pearl Stetzel, and wrote: "I hereby give my consent to the marriage of my son William E. Wohlford." William and Pearl were married the next day, Christmas Day.
Samuel died in Jackson Township on 19 August 1918, twelve days before his sixtieth birthday. He is buried at Zion Cemetery, where his parents lie. Susannah lived another twenty four years.
