William E. Wohlford
William E. Wohlford was born on 5 May 1887 in Jackson Township, Huntington County, Indiana. His parents were Samuel P. Wohlford, a Jackson Township farmer and a son of Jacob Wohlford, and Susannah Rice of Union Township.
On 24 December 1906 William went to the clerk of the Huntington Circuit Court for a licence to marry Pearl Stetzel. He was nineteen and farming in Jackson Township. Pearl was also nineteen and lived in Union Township with her parents, David A. Stetzel, a farmer, and Minerva Snowden. William answered the clerk's printed questions one by one: no, he was not a nearer relation to the bride than second cousin; yes, this was his first marriage. Because he was under twenty one, his father came with him. Samuel P. Wohlford swore that the statements on both applications were true and wrote beneath his son's: "I hereby give my consent to the marriage of my son William E. Wohlford." The clerk, William H. Shideler, issued the licence that day.
The next day, Christmas Day 1906, the Rev. H. E. Butler married William and Pearl. His certificate was filed with the clerk on 27 December.
William and Pearl had four sons: Walter Vernon, born at Huntington on 17 December 1907, Keith Leon in 1912, Gerald B. in Jackson Township on 2 June 1914, and Don William in Jackson Township in 1918.
Pearl died at Huntington on 25 October 1947, aged 60. William died at Anderson, Indiana, on 29 January 1952, aged 64. They are buried together at Zion Cemetery in Jackson Township, under a red granite stone that reads "William E. 1887-1952" and "Pearl 1887-1947."
