Sarah Patrick was born at Mount Vernon, Ohio, in March 1825, the daughter of Uriah and Delilah Patrick. The age given at her death puts the day at about 26 March. She joined the Presbyterian church "when but a girl."

In 1847 she married Thomas Colville, a farmer of Pleasant Township, and they settled on the Colville home farm. Their five children were William Thomas in 1849, Robert Woods in 1851, Jessie Ellen in 1854, Charles Franklin in 1858 and Jean, called Jennie, in 1864. From 1875 her husband was the township's justice of the peace.

Thomas died in 1895. Sarah lived another eighteen years. She died on Saturday, 11 October 1913, at her daughter Jessie Starr's home on East Chestnut Street in Mount Vernon, aged 88. All five children survived her. She was buried with her husband at Mound View Cemetery, under a shared flat stone that reads "SARAH PATRICK / THOMAS COLVILLE / 1825-1913 / 1818-1895."
