Susanna Edson
Susanna Edson was a daughter of Samuel Edson and Susanna Orcutt, by Mitchell's account. Her parents came from Salem to be among the first settlers of Bridgewater. Her father owned the town's first mill and was the first deacon of its church. She married the Rev. James Keith, the Scot who was Bridgewater's first minister. Mitchell lists their children as James, Joseph, Samuel, Timothy, John, Josiah, Margaret, Mary and Susanna. Samuel's birth in 1676 is entered in the Bridgewater book, from his stone, as "s. Rev. James and Susanna".
Three of her sons married three daughters of Deacon Edward Fobes: Joseph married Elizabeth, Samuel married Bethiah in 1703, and Timothy married Hannah in 1710.
She died before 1707, when her husband married again. Her birth and death are not recorded. She lies beside him in the Old Graveyard at West Bridgewater, under a slab that reads "Here lies the Body of Mrs. Susanna Keith." A Keith family obelisk names her a second time, as the mother of "Samuel, son of Rev. James & Susanna Keith, born 1676."
