Tethel Elizabeth Gore

Tethel Elizabeth Gore was born on 3 January 1896 in Johnson County, Illinois, the daughter of Barnett Franklin Gore and Rosa Lucretia Ragsdale. Her father died in 1900, when she was four. In the census taken that year she was living in Cache Township, Johnson County, with her widowed mother Rosa and her brothers and sisters Samuel, John J., Elvina and Gusta M.

On 29 September 1912, at Cypress, she married Otis Z. Canupp. She was sixteen. The marriage record names her parents as Barnett Gore and Rosie Ragsdale. Their daughter Helen Deleen was born near Cypress on 23 October 1913, followed by Lillie Belle in 1916, Don Franklin in 1918 and Richard Lewis.

Tethel Elizabeth Canupp died at Cypress on 31 December 1926, aged thirty. Her oldest child was thirteen. She was buried in Cypress Cemetery, and when Otis died in 1930 his name was cut above hers on the same stone, with the words "Tethel E. his wife" and "Father and Mother."
