Thomas Harvey

Thomas Harvey was born in Somerset about 1617. In 1636 he came to New England with his brother William.

On 8 November 1638 he gave evidence at Cohannet, the settlement soon renamed Taunton. He gave his age as "xxj yeares or thereabout". The matter was a passenger's bond that had been torn up during the voyage over.

He became one of the proprietors of Taunton, listed as a "12-shilling" holder. He married Elizabeth Andrews, a sister of Henry Andrews of Taunton. Their son Thomas was born about 1643.

He died at Taunton in 1651, aged about thirty-four. His widow's brother Henry Andrews made his will the next March. He left "to his sister Elizabeth Harvey, widow ... a cow ... which my will is shall belong to her children".

The Harvey Book of 1899 makes him a son of Thomas Harvey of Ashill in Somerset. The will of Agnes Clark of Ashill, in 1647, names only his brother William as the son of Thomas Harvey deceased. The book adds Thomas as William's brother.
