Vincenc Krčmář
Vincenc Krčmář was born on 6 May 1834 at house number 22 in Lhotka, a farming village in the parish of Klášterec nad Orlicí in the Zamberk district of eastern Bohemia. He was baptized by the curate, Anton Buchtel. His father, another Vincenc Krčmář, was a small farmer of that house. His mother, Marie, came from house number 20, the daughter of the quarter-farmer Josef Doleček and of Barbora Švenda of Pastviny. His grandfather Vincenc Krčmář had farmed house number 13 in the same village and married Anna Toman, a farmer's daughter of Klášterec. An elder sister, Marie, had been born in January 1833, and two more sisters followed, Maria in December 1839 and Barbora in October 1841. On 5 October 1863, at thirty, he married Anežka Hulka, twenty, at the church of Německá Rybná, the bride's parish. She was the daughter of the late František Hulka, a familiant of Německá Rybná no. 148, and of Anna Jakubec of Slatina. Because she was under age, the district court at Žamberk had to give its consent, which it did on 22 September. The banns were read in both churches, Rybná and Klášterec, on 27 and 28 September and 4 October, and the parish priest Jan Lauschmann married them. Their witnesses were Josef Jakubec, a farmer of Slatina no. 94, and Jan Toman, a cottager of Klášterec no. 3. By then his father was dead, and the groom himself was the familiant of Lhotka no. 22: the holder of one of the small family farms that had been carved out of the lordship's own land in the reforms of the 1770s and 1780s. Their daughter Anna was born there on 6 February 1865 and baptized the next day.
About 1866 the family emigrated to America, with Anna still a baby. They settled first in Iowa, where Frances was born about 1869, Mary about 1873, Joseph about 1875 and Frank about 1878. By 1879 they had moved on to the Czech farming settlement in Ellsworth County, Kansas, and there Anna, at fifteen, married Frank Sekavec, a widower from Bohemia. In June 1880 the census taker found Vincent Krcmar, 45, farmer, born in Bohemia of Bohemian parents, in Lincoln and Valley townships, with his wife Agness, 42, Frances, 11, Mary, 7, Joseph, 5, Frank, 2, and Pauline, nine months, the first of the children born in Kansas. Anna and Frank were living a few pages back in the same district. The Kansas census of 1885 still found the couple in Ellsworth County. Where and when Vincenc died is not known.
