Anna Krchmar
Anna Krchmar, Krčmářová in Czech, was born on 6 February 1865 at Lhotka, a farming village in the Zamberk district of eastern Bohemia, and was baptized the next day by the parish priest, J. A. Bitka. Her father, Vincenc Krčmář, was a farmer at house number 22, the son of another Vincenc Krčmář of the same house and of Marie Doleček of house number 20. Her mother, Anežka, was the daughter of František Hulka, a cottager of Německá Rybná, and his wife Anna Jakubec of Slatina. Her godmother was the wife of Franz Toman, a farmer of house number 3, and the midwife was Anna Hulka of Německá Rybná.
The family left Bohemia when she was a baby; her death certificate says she had been in the United States 75 years. They lived first in Iowa, where her sisters Frances and Mary and her brothers Joseph and Frank were born between about 1869 and 1878. By 1879 they had moved to the Czech settlement in Ellsworth County, Kansas, and there, at fifteen, Anna married Frank Sekavec, a widower of thirty-one with young children. In June 1880 the census found her parents, Vincent and Agnes Krcmar, farming a few pages along from her in the same district of Lincoln and Valley townships, with Frances, Mary, Joseph, Frank and a baby, Pauline, born in Kansas.
In Anna's own household that June she was fifteen by the census taker's count, mistress of a farmhouse in Valley Township, with two stepchildren older than she could have borne, Sophie, 11, and Cenek, 5, a three-year-old Annie, and her own first baby, John, one. The enumerator wrote the family down as Lekavec. She bore Frank fourteen children in all. John was born at Holyrood in 1879, Olga in 1882, Karel in 1888; then the family moved to the Oklahoma Territory in 1893 and to Shawnee by 1898, where Milos was born in 1900 and Paul in 1906, when she was 41.
Frank died at Mount Ida, Arkansas, in 1926. Anna spent her last years at 1477 Thomas Avenue in Columbus, Ohio, a widow keeping her own home, with Mrs. Albie Queen of the same address. She had lived in Columbus a year and a half. She died there on 20 January 1941 of the infirmities of age, and was buried on 23 January at Glen Rest Memorial Estate in Reynoldsburg, outside Columbus. Her certificate gives her birth as 27 February 1864, her father only as Krcmer, and her mother as Agnes Hulka, both born in Bohemia.
