Virginia Ella Hille was born on 22 October 1860 at Cincinnati and married William B. Heal in 1878, at seventeen.
Every record made in her lifetime calls her Jennie. The 1900 census, the 1910 census, the city directory, her sons' marriage licences: Jennie Heal, Jennie Hilley, Jennie Helley. The name Virginia Ella survives on her grave at Spring Grove and nowhere else, and her maiden name is HILLE rather than any of the three spellings the clerks gave it.
In 1910 she is in Cincinnati Ward 23 with Alfred, Grace, Mabel and the rest. Her husband went into Longview State Hospital and died there in 1932. She died on 7 February 1937 and was buried beside him.
Her death certificate gives her age as 76 years, 3 months and 15 days, which counts back to 23 October 1860, a day from the 22 October on her stone, and it names her mother Martha Holmes of Cincinnati and her father as born in Virginia. It calls the father Robert. The Hamilton County marriage return of 1857 and the 1870 census of Ward 10 both call him William, and the census has her in his house at nine years old.
