Calista Hadlock
Calista Hadlock, called Kitt, was born on 3 February 1852 in Vermont, the youngest of the four daughters of Henry Hadlock and his wife, by her family's record Dorothy Ann Chase. From Vermont the family moved to New York, then to Wisconsin, and in 1871 came with her to the new town of Russell, Kansas. There, on 27 June 1875, she married C. F. S. Aimes, a Civil War lieutenant from Goshen, New York, who had come to the county the same year as the Hadlocks and drove cattle over western Kansas. She was the mother of six children, five of whom survived her: Henry, Arnest Frank, Louise, Anna and one more.
She fell ill about the spring of 1898 and was bedfast for nineteen months. She died at 10:30 on the evening of 2 August 1900, aged 48, her husband and five children at her bedside. The funeral was at the Congregational church on the Saturday morning, Rev. D. J. Treiber officiating, assisted by Rev. W. P. Rutledge of the Methodist church. She is buried in Russell City Cemetery.
