Elizabeth French was born at Northampton in Massachusetts on 15 November 1700. Her father, Jonathan French, had been born at Ipswich. Her mother, Sarah Warner, was the eldest daughter of Isaac Warner of Hadley and granddaughter of Andrew Warner, deacon of Hartford. She was the fifth of nine children.

Her father died in February 1714, when she was thirteen. Her mother administered the estate for ten years. When it was settled in January 1725 the land went whole to her brother Jonathan, and he was to pay each of his brothers and sisters 14 pounds 19 shillings and 6 pence. By then she was married, and the settlement names her as "Elizabeth Frentch alias Bascomb."

She had married Daniel Bascom at Northampton on 27 February 1723, and they went to Lebanon in Connecticut. Ten children were born to them there between April 1726 and 1742: Abigail, Daniel, Elizabeth, Thankful, Sarah, Mary, John, Elihu, Jonathan and Bille. Jonathan graduated from Yale in 1764 and became the pastor at Orleans on Cape Cod.

She died at Lebanon in the winter of 1749/50, on 15 February by Harris's Bascom genealogy and on 15 January by the 1919 Warner book. Eight months later her husband married again.

Her sisters remembered her. In 1767 her sister Mary Meraw of Coventry, whose own children had probably all died young, left part of her estate "to the female heirs of my sister Elizabeth the wife of Daniel Bascom late of Lebanon."
