Henry Scott
Henry Scott was a son of Edmund Scott and his wife Joan, of Rattlesden in Suffolk, England. Walter Goodwin Davis's Ancestry of Phoebe Tilton (1947) gives him as "probably born about the year 1565". His father was a parish officer from 1569 and churchwarden in 1588 and 1589.
On 25 July 1594 he married Martha Whatlock at Rattlesden. She was a daughter of Thomas and Joan Whatlock and had been baptised in the same church in 1568. Their son Thomas was baptised on 26 February 1594/5 and their daughter Ursula on 14 February 1596/7, and there was a third child, Roger. The English year then began on 25 March, so dates in January, February and most of March are often written with both years.
Ursula married Richard Kimball of Rattlesden. Their son Henry was baptised there on 12 August 1615. Thomas became a glover. He married Elizabeth Strutt in 1620, and their daughter Elizabeth was baptised in November 1623.
Henry made his will on 24 September 1623. As quoted in the Kimball family history of 1897, it left bequests to four of Ursula's children: "To Abigale Kemball my grandchild twentie shillings ... to Henrie Kemball my grandchild ... to Elizabeth Kemball my grandchild ... to Richard Kemball my grandchild." It also remembered his son Thomas and named his wife Martha. He was buried at Rattlesden on 24 December 1624, and the will was proved on 10 January 1624/5.
Ten years after his death his widow sailed for New England in the Elizabeth of Ipswich, with Thomas, Ursula and ten grandchildren. Thomas settled at Ipswich, Massachusetts. Ursula and Richard Kimball lived at Watertown and then Ipswich. Thomas's daughter Elizabeth married John Spofford of Rowley.
