Thomas Scott
Thomas Scott was baptised at Rattlesden, in Suffolk, England, on 26 February 1594/5. He was the eldest known child of Henry Scott and Martha Whatlock. His sister Ursula, two years younger, married Richard Kimball of the same parish. Thomas was a glover by trade.
On 20 July 1620 he married Elizabeth Strutt at Rattlesden. Their eldest child, Elizabeth, was baptised there on 18 November 1623. Abigail, Thomas, Hannah, Sarah and Mary followed.
His uncle Robert Whatlock's will of 20 September 1622 left a bequest to "my kinsman Thomas Skott of Rattlesden, glover". His father's will, made the next year, remembered him too. Henry Scott was buried at Rattlesden in December 1624.
At the end of April 1634 Thomas sailed for New England in the Elizabeth of Ipswich. His widowed mother came with him, and so did his sister Ursula, her husband and their children. The Kimball family history of 1897 calls him Richard Kimball's brother-in-law. He settled at Ipswich, Massachusetts, where he had a house lot in 1635. He was made a freeman on 4 March 1634/5. A freeman of the Massachusetts Bay Colony was a church member admitted to vote in the colony's elections. In 1636/7 he was one of the town's selectmen, the small board that ran the town between town meetings.
He made his will on 8 March 1653/4. It left £25 each to his daughters Elizabeth and Abigail. His executors were "brother Richard Kembell", Thomas Rowlinson and Edmund Bridges. The will was proved on 28 March 1654, so he died that month. His daughter Elizabeth had married John Spofford of Rowley, and Abigail married Haniell Bosworth.
