Lee Ann Hart
Lee Ann Hart was born on 9 November 1850 at Beverly, the county seat of Randolph County in the mountains of what was then western Virginia. Her parents were Elijah M. Hart and Sarah C. Little, who had married in Randolph County in 1840. Her mother was the daughter of Robert Little and Mary Eleanor Caplinger of Beverly. In the census of 1850 she is Lee A. Hart, a baby in her parents' household, and in 1860 she is Leann, nine, with six brothers and sisters. Her father is Elijah Montgomery Hart on his burial record, born in Randolph County in 1819. Her sister Eveline, called Eva, was born at Beverly in 1857.
On 9 December 1869, in Upshur County, she married James H. Pinnell. She was nineteen. The couple settled in Harrison County, near Romines Mills on Gnatty Creek, a few miles from Clarksburg. Her children were Catherine (1873), Dorsey Montgomery (1875), James Raymond (1876), David Stuart (1882) and Isabelle.
Lee Ann Pinnell died on 15 May 1888, aged thirty seven. She was buried at Gnatty Creek Cemetery, Romines Mills, where her mother had been buried three years before and her father was buried in 1908. Her son James Raymond Pinnell went north to Saginaw, Michigan. On his death certificate in 1939 his mother is named simply as Lee Hart. He named two of his sons after her family: John Hart Pinnell, born in 1910, and Lee Hart Pinnell, born in 1920.
