Mary Helen Burgert
Mary Helen Burgert was born May 10, 1885 at Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, the third of the six known children of Charles Burgert, a German immigrant born in November 1847, and Emily Will, who had herself been born in Ste. Genevieve to German parents. The 1900 census shows the whole family in the town, Mary Helene fifteen years old.
About 1908 she married Andrew Joseph Stackle, and their four children were born across seventeen years: Edgar in 1908, Harry in 1912, Andrew Charles in 1917 and Leola in 1925. The family left Ste. Genevieve for St. Louis in the late 1920s and settled finally at 7415 Murdock Avenue in Shrewsbury, where the 1940 census records her keeping the house, with only Leola still at home.
On Sunday, June 1, 1947 the automobile in which she was riding, her husband driving, struck a pole on the Murdock Cut-Off in Shrewsbury. She was taken to St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Louis with a hemorrhage of the brain and died there at five in the morning on June 3, twenty-four days past her sixty-second birthday. The certificate records the death as an unavoidable accident. She was buried June 6 at Resurrection Cemetery, Affton.
