Maude Marie Jeralds was born in Tennessee on 3 July 1912, a daughter of William Edward Jeralds and Stella Lee Miller. Her father was killed by electricity at Monroe, North Carolina, in March 1921, when she was eight. In 1930 she was seventeen and living at Englewood in McMinn County with her widowed mother and her brothers and sisters Jack, Mildred, Willie Lee and Edward. Her older sister Hattie had married and left home.
On 17 January 1931, in McMinn County, she married William Taft Daugherty, also of Englewood. Their son Billy Ronald Daugherty was born at Englewood on 17 November 1931. By 1940 the three of them were in Los Angeles County, California, living in the Inglewood Judicial Township, the district around Gardena and Moneta.
In 1950 her son, marrying Zelma Louise Manugoff at Gardena, gave her maiden name, Maude Jeralds. In August 1954 her husband was found dead beside the Texas and Pacific Railway near Lodi, in Marion County, Texas, killed falling or thrown from a moving train. His death certificate calls him a married man but gives no home address, and the particulars came from a Mrs. Howard S. Cagle of Madisonville, Tennessee. He was buried at Englewood, where the two of them had married twenty three years before. Her mother's obituary in 1969 named her among the survivors as Maude Daugherty.
In February 1956, a widow of eighteen months, she was living at Redondo Beach as Mrs. Maude Daugherty when the Torrance Herald named her among the grandparents of a new Daugherty baby.
In her later years she went by her middle name, Marie, and she married again, to Frank A. Williams. As Marie M. Williams, a homemaker, she lived at 1015 1/2 Cota Avenue in Torrance. She died at Torrance on 22 January 1980, aged sixty seven, and was buried the next day. Her California death record gives her birth as 3 July 1912 in Tennessee and her father's surname as Jeralds, and her burial record names her mother as Stella. She lies in Pacific Crest Cemetery at Redondo Beach under a stone reading "In loving memory". Frank lived until 1998.
