Minnie Jane Tipton was born at Blue Ridge in Fannin County, Georgia on 17 March 1900, one of at least nine children of John B. Tipton and Josephine Crawford of the Sugar Creek district. She married Joseph Lahua Golden and had eight children or more, one of whom she named Josephine after her own mother.
In 1930 the family is still at Sugar Creek. Between 1933 and 1936 they went north to West Virginia, and the birthplaces of her children carry the move: the older ones Georgia, the younger ones West Virginia.
On 15 April 1950 she is fifty years old at Huntington in Cabell County, head of her own household, marital status separated, working as a laundress at a general hospital, with Josephine seventeen, Sue fourteen and Dennis ten still at home. Her husband was enumerated nine days later in the next county, also separated, also head of his own house.
She died at Huntington on 16 May 1994, aged ninety four, and is buried at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Barboursville, Atonement Gardens, Lot 5C, Space 4, which is the same ground as the Fettys.
