Minnie Laurie Davenport
Minnie Laurie Davenport was born on 30 July 1906 in Michigan, on her mother's thirty-first birthday. Her parents were Charles J. Davenport and Reba D. Carter, who farmed in Clarence Township, in the northeast corner of Calhoun County. They had married in 1900. Four children born to them before Minnie had not lived, and she was the first who grew up. After her came Benjamin in 1909, Cleave in 1912 and Eunice in 1915. In the census of 1920 the family was in Clarence Township: Charles, 45, Reba, 44, Minnie, 13, Ben, 10, Cleave, 7, and Eunice, 4.
She married Clark Henry Short, a World War I veteran thirteen years older than she was, and they farmed in Clarence Township too. Their children were Flora Jane, Clarice Jean, Clark Keith, Lillian Jeanetta and Madora, the last born at Albion in January 1942. In the census of 3 April 1950 Minnie was 42, keeping house on the farm with Clark and the three youngest children.
Clark died in October 1961. Minnie then married Michael Nolan Kellogg, who was born in 1908 and died in 1973. When her mother died in 1960 the obituary listed her as "Mrs. Minnie Kellogg of Route 2, Albion." She died on 29 September 1985, aged 79, and was buried with Michael Kellogg in Clarence Center Cemetery, where Clark Short and her own parents lie. Their stone is shaped as a heart, carved with a cross and flowers and the name Kellogg across the middle, with "Minnie L., 1906 - 1985" on one side and "Michael N., 1908 - 1973" on the other.
